Two million sq ft mega shed planned for Northampton

Howdens Joinery Group and Roxhill Developments have submitted plans for a 2.2 million sq ft warehouse facility outside Northampton in the Midlands. The company saw £1 billion sales in 2014 and opened 30 new depots in 2014 and it says that the planned new development is imperative for its future in the region

The proposed site is only 5 miles from its existing distribution facility in Brackmills and sits immediately adjacent to junction 15 of the M1 motorway providing direct access to the national motorway network. Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal is located 19.8 miles from the site while Northampton is 10 miles to the north and Milton Keynes is 16 miles to the south.

Howdens is the largest supplier of kitchens in the UK, and keen to remain in Northampton as business continues to grow. However, the current facility at Brackmills will be inadequate for its future requirements, and following a rigorous search the company has identified the site at Junction 15 as the only location capable of accommodating a new national distribution centre in Northampton.

Howdens is proposing a major investment in a new development at this site to enable and support continued growth.

The proposed buildings would be set within a high-quality landscaped site, which would provide significant screening to and from the site from surrounding areas. As part of the proposals, Junction 15 would be comprehensively improved to not only ensure appropriate access to the site, but also to resolve current capacity and congestion problems at the junction.
