Miniclipper Logistics moving forwards

Unprecedented enquiries for warehousing space result in Miniclipper Logistics searching for their fourth warehouse facility just 3 weeks after opening the newest site

Collection of the keys to Miniclipper’s new 55,000 sq. ft acquisition in Houghton Regis the week before Christmas coincided with the award of a new contract, and an enquiry from a blue chip DIY company resulting in full commitment of the whole warehouse. The new facility is being racked to store 5000 pallets, with 8 dock levellers, a marshalling and rework area, increasing Miniclipper’s total storage capacity to 25,000 pallets.

“Storage enquiries from UK businesses requiring either full outsource, or overflow warehousing outnumber transport enquiries by 5 to 1, with a high conversion rate of companies that view our operation and meet our people”, said Managing Director, Peter Masters.

“Our loyal, experienced picking and account management team results in low turnover of clients, and we have calculated that the majority of our warehousing customer stays for at least 7 years”.

Miniclipper Logistics is a 2nd generation transport and warehousing business with 110 people and 250,000 sq. ft of operating space and warehousing on 3 sites.  Over the past 20 years, a steady progression of warehouse acquisitions throughout the Leighton Buzzard industrial estates, has yielded recent double digit growth in turnover, and is now increasing in pace.

Purchasing the former Boots Distribution Centre on the outskirts of Dunstable was a brave step with two unsecured pending contracts, however 4 weeks after completion on the premises, the first contract was won, and racking for 5,000 pallets was ordered.  An additional last minute enquiry from a DIY company before Christmas ensured an instant revenue stream for the new facility, and has prompted a search for a fourth facility in Bedfordshire.

Up to 20 new jobs will be created by the new contract win at Houghton Regis.  The newly appointed site manager came from a major European 3PL, bringing a depth of warehousing and transport expertise needed for the steep ramp up to being fully operational and fully utilised by April.

“2015 has started with a buzz at Miniclipper with new people and new premises in place, and it’s an exciting time for us and our customers”.

Miniclipper will once again be exhibiting at the Multimodal Exhibition at the NEC from 28-30 April.
