Farall's Transport builds for portcentric services

The Cheshire-based logistics service provider has invested £3.5M expanding its warehousing capacity on Deeside with an eye on portcentric logistics over Liverpool Docks.

Farrall’s second warehouse at Deeside Industrial Estate, is an 81,000 ft2 food-grade facility. Slated to open in early January 2015, it complements the company’s existing 80,000 ft2 distribution centre.

The location offers close links to the national motorway network via the M56 and M6.

"Being just half an hour from Liverpool Docks and the new Liverpool SuperPort [Liverpool2] due to open in 2015," said Farrall's, "the new facility enables [us] to tap into the fast developing market for port-centric logistics."

Managing Director Mike Farrall said:

“The many expanding local businesses are in need of first-class warehousing and reliable distribution services.

“Port Centric Logistics has started to gather pace as a supply chain strategy and a growing number of retailers and manufacturers are now looking to store goods and undertake logistics activities close to the port of entry. Being within half an hour’s run of Liverpool’s new SuperPort places Farrall’s in a strong position to tap into this developing market when the port opens in 2015.”

Farrall’s, a founding member and shareholder of PalletForce, will also relocate its PalletForce depot from Ashton, near Chester, to the new warehouse. The move will save two hours a day for each of the vehicles dedicated to PalletForce operations and allows for significant expansion of the company’s pallet network business by offering over 10,000 ft2 of covered space and 20,000 ft2 of yard space.
